Pick & Davy, Hilltop

Between the Nottinghamshire towns of Eastwood and Kimberley there is a large number of micropubs situated at various points along the 4-mile stretch of main road that links the two towns. The village of Hilltop, less than a mile away from Eastwood, is home to the first micropub along this stretch – the Tap & Growler, which opened in 2015.

Fast-forward 3 years and the Eastwood-Kimberly stretch now boasts EIGHT micropubs (at time of writing), and the village that started this particular micropub trail has now provided another new small watering hole to join the pack. Time to pay a visit to the Pick & Davy micropub in Hilltop.
How’s it mining?
This new micropub is themed around the mining industry, with an old mining clock and various mining light equipment among the interior decorations. Pick & Davy is actually the second mining-themed micropub on the Eastwood-Kimberly trail (the first being the Miners Return in Kimberly).
Mine’s a pint
There is a pretty decent range of drinks available at the Pick & Davy. For ale drinkers there are up to six real ales to choose from, all from independent breweries. Cider drinkers have up to five tipples available, or if lager is more of your tipple then you have a couple of lagers to choose from. There is also a wide range of gins available along with whiskeys and other spirits, while soft drinks are also available.

At the time of my visit the Pick & Davy had not been open long (only opened the previous day if I remember correctly?) but there was a decent number of punters inside, no doubt people were keen to try out this new micropub. If my visit is anything to go by (great beers, great staff, overall welcoming venue) then the Pick & Davy will without doubt go on to become another excellent micropub, adding to the ever growing number of small watering holes in Nottinghamshire. Indeed the Pick & Davy is a very welcome addition to the list, and of course to the Eastwood-Kimberly micropub trail.

Pick & Davy is located just off the main road in Hilltop and is served by several main bus routes from Nottingham and Derby.
